Epson Southeast Asia (SEA) has made measurable progress toward its sustainability ambitions, according to its FY2024 Sustainability Report.
The company reports significant reductions in energy use, expanded circular economy initiatives, and strengthened community and governance programs, reflecting a data-driven approach to regional environmental and social impact.
Aligned with Epson’s global Environmental Vision 2050, the report details the company’s commitment to carbon negativity and the elimination of reliance on underground resources. Regional emissions tracking, initiated in FY2023, now underpins more transparent and actionable sustainability strategies. In FY24, Epson SEA reduced electricity consumption by approximately 11%, lowering Scope 2 emissions to 814 tonnes CO₂e—equivalent to the annual energy use of roughly 4,500 refrigerators.
Advancing Circular Economy Practices
Epson’s circular economy agenda in SEA focused on waste reduction, resource efficiency, and logistics optimization. Expansions in drop-shipping operations alone avoided 113 tonnes of CO₂e, representing a potential 21% improvement over FY23. In-office circularity also yielded tangible outcomes: one office achieved BCA Green Mark Gold certification during the reporting period, with five additional offices receiving certifications since, emphasizing the integration of sustainable building practices into daily operations.
Scope 3 emissions tracking was expanded, providing granular insight into the environmental impact of upstream and downstream activities. Regional markets collectively recycled over 1,600 kg of ink consumables and converted more than 500 kg of food waste into fertilizer, roughly equivalent to 1,700 meals. These initiatives underscore the effectiveness of a place-based, market-specific approach to sustainability.
Operational sustainability extends beyond environmental metrics. Epson SEA reported full employee participation in compliance training and reinforced anti-corruption, health, and safety protocols, achieving zero workplace incidents in FY24. Investments in employee well-being and targeted training programs illustrate a holistic approach that links operational efficiency, safety, and sustainability outcomes.
Epson SEA has coupled environmental action with community-focused programs. Educational initiatives such as the “Epson Goes to School” program and donations of printers improved access to learning materials across the region, while support for robotics programs equips students with skills for a digital future.
Environmental restoration efforts included collaboration with NGOs and local communities to recover over 1,400 kg of waste, including plastics and foam, across six Southeast Asian markets. In Indonesia, Epson partnered with WWF’s Trees for Life project, planting 200,000 trees across 300 hectares—directly benefiting 300 families and contributing to long-term ecosystem restoration.
